A five-day small-group tour flying direct from Hanoi to Beijing Daxing, spending all its time in Beijing and the hills north of the capital. Your first city day covers Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, followed by shopping on Wangfujing Street. Day three sets this tour apart: you travel to Gubei Water Town beneath the Simatai section of the Great Wall, climb the wall in the afternoon, soak in a hot spring in the evening and stay the night in the town. The last two days take in the Summer Palace, photos outside the Bird’s Nest stadium, the Shichahai lakes and a traditional Beijing copper-pot hotpot before the flight home. The price includes return flights, a group visa for Vietnamese passports, local 4-star hotels, meals including Peking duck, entrance tickets and a Vietnamese-speaking guide. The itinerary has no product showroom stops; day four includes free time for shopping at an outlet mall.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1 · Hanoi – Beijing

In the afternoon the coach and guide collect you from a central Hanoi meeting point for Noi Bai Airport and the evening flight to Beijing, with dinner served on board. You land at Daxing Airport close to midnight, clear immigration and check in at the hotel.

  2. Day 2 · Tiananmen – Forbidden City – Wangfujing

After breakfast, visit Tiananmen Square, seeing the Great Hall of the People and the Mao Mausoleum from outside, then enter the Forbidden City, palace of the Ming and Qing emperors. On peak days when palace tickets run out, the group visits Prince Gong’s Mansion instead. After lunch there is free time on Wangfujing pedestrian street; dinner and overnight in Beijing.

  3. Day 3 · Gubei Water Town – Simatai Great Wall

Check out and drive to Gubei Water Town, an old canal town of stone bridges and tiled roofs among the mountains, often called the Wuzhen of the north. After lunch, climb the Simatai section of the Great Wall right above the town; the cable car is not included. Dinner at a restaurant, a hot-spring bath in the resort, and overnight in Gubei.

  4. Day 4 · Summer Palace – Bird’s Nest – outlet

After breakfast, return to the city for the Summer Palace on Kunming Lake, the retreat of Empress Dowager Cixi. After lunch, take photos outside the 2008 Olympic Bird’s Nest stadium and the Water Cube; an evening acrobatics show can be bought separately. Free time at a designer outlet in the afternoon, dinner at your own expense, overnight in Beijing.

  5. Day 5 · Shichahai – copper-pot hotpot – Hanoi

Check out after breakfast and stroll the old lakeside quarter of Shichahai with its hutong lanes, teahouses and stone bridges. Lunch is a small copper-pot Beijing hotpot, then the coach takes you to the airport for the afternoon flight to Hanoi. From Noi Bai you are driven back to the city centre, where the tour ends.
