A weekend small-group trip from Hanoi to Ta Xua, a high mountain area of Bac Yen in Son La famed for its seas of cloud, leaving on Saturday morning. On the way the group stops at the lush Thanh Son tea hills and has lunch in Bac Yen. In the afternoon reach Ta Xua to visit the spots mountain lovers know well: the Lonely Tree standing alone against the sky, Dolphin Rock jutting out over the clouds, then sunset at Wind Peak. Next morning rise early for the Dinosaur Spine at Hang Dong, a narrow ridge with drops on either side and, on a good day, clouds filling the valleys below. You stay in a homestay in central Ta Xua, have a hot pot for dinner and travel with a photographer. Ideal for young travellers and friends who love chasing clouds and taking photos and want a short trip packed with memories.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1 · Hanoi – Thanh Son tea hills – Ta Xua – Wind Peak

    Leave Hanoi around 6:00 with a breakfast stop at your own expense, then pause at the Thanh Son tea hills in Phu Tho. Lunch in Bac Yen, then head up to Ta Xua for the Lonely Tree and Dolphin Rock above the reservoir and sunset at Wind Peak. Check in to the homestay around 18:00 for a hotpot dinner; on Saturday nights you can choose to catch acoustic music at a cafe in the village.

  2. Day 2 · Dinosaur Spine at Hang Dong – Hanoi

    While it is still dark, the vehicle takes the group up to the Dinosaur Spine at Hang Dong for sunrise over the clouds. Return to the homestay around 8:00 for breakfast, then relax with a mountain-view coffee at your own expense. Check out late morning, have lunch and drive back, reaching Hanoi around 19:00.
