An autumn small-group tour of six days and five nights from Hanoi, flying direct on Vietnam Airlines into Kansai and home from Haneda, with return flights, airline taxes and a Japanese visa included. In Kansai the group visits the deer of Nara Park and Osaka Castle, rides a section of the Shinkansen, then sees Kiyomizu-dera on Higashiyama hill and the thousand gates of Fushimi Inari. On day four you go up to Fuji’s 5th Station if weather allows, stroll Oishi Park on Lake Kawaguchi and Oshino Hakkai, with an onsen in the evening. Tokyo brings the Skytree, Asakusa Kannon Temple, a Wagyu beef lunch, a Geisha show and Akihabara; the last day covers the Meiji Jingu Gaien ginkgo avenue and Odaiba. The late-November and mid-December dates fall in the season of golden and red leaves, depending on the weather; hotels are 3–4 stars.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 · Hanoi – Osaka
Around 19:30 the coach and guide collect you at the Hanoi meeting point for Noi Bai Airport and Vietnam Airlines’ after-midnight flight to Osaka. Night on board.
Day 2 · Osaka – Nara – Osaka
Land at Kansai early in the morning and drive to Nara to stroll the park around Tōdai-ji, where deer wander freely. After lunch return to Osaka to photograph Osaka Castle on its two high stone bases inside the moats, then free shopping in Shinsaibashi and Nipponbashi. Dinner and overnight in Osaka.
Day 3 · Shinkansen – Kyoto – Nagoya
Check out and ride a section of the Shinkansen on the way to Kyoto. Visit Kiyomizu-dera, whose wooden main hall stands on hundreds of tall pillars, a World Heritage site since 1994. In the afternoon walk the rows of red torii at Fushimi Inari Shrine, then continue to Nagoya or Chubu for the night.
Day 4 · Nagoya – Mount Fuji
Travel to the Mount Fuji area and go up to the 5th Station if weather allows for a closer look at the peak. After lunch stroll Oishi Park on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi and the old village of Oshino Hakkai. Dinner at a restaurant, a hot-spring bath at the hotel and the night in the Fuji area.
Day 5 · Mount Fuji – Tokyo
Drive to Tokyo to photograph the Skytree from outside and visit Asakusa Kannon Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy. Wagyu beef lunch, then a Geisha performance and free time in Akihabara if time allows. Night in a Tokyo hotel.
Day 6 · Tokyo – Hanoi
Morning walk along the Meiji Jingu Gaien ginkgo avenue, which turns bright gold from mid-November to early December (weather permitting), then on to Odaiba. After lunch transfer to Haneda for the afternoon flight to Hanoi, landing at Noi Bai around 20:50 and returning to the meeting point.
