  • Chiang Mai old town, night bazaar and a Khantoke dinner

A four-day small-group tour of northern Thailand on direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Chiang Mai, a world away from the beaches of Pattaya and Phuket. Your first evening brings a traditional Khantoke dinner from the old Lanna kingdom and free time at the Chiang Mai night bazaar. Day two visits the Royal Park Rajapruek gardens and drives to Chiang Rai via Singha Park; day three takes in the White Temple, Wat Rong Khun, and the Blue Temple, Wat Rong Suea Ten, before returning to Chiang Mai via the famous CHOM garden cafe. On the last morning you see the ancient temples of Chedi Luang and Lok Molee in the old town before the flight home. The price includes return flights with baggage, 3–4-star hotels, meals as listed, transport, a Vietnamese tour leader and a local guide, with stops at honey and latex showrooms. Perfect if you have done Bangkok and Pattaya and want a different Thailand of hills, Lanna temples and cooler weather.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1 · Ho Chi Minh City – Chiang Mai

The tour leader meets the group at Tan Son Nhat Airport for the flight to Chiang Mai. On arrival the coach takes you to a traditional Lanna Khantoke dinner. Afterwards, browse the Chiang Mai night bazaar for handicrafts and street food at leisure before returning to the hotel.

  2. Day 2 · Royal Park Rajapruek – Singha Park – Chiang Rai

Breakfast and check-out, then tour the Royal Park Rajapruek, hundreds of hectares of gardens with exhibits on Thailand’s kings and gardens styled after many countries. After lunch, drive to Chiang Rai with a stop at Singha Park and its tea hills, food outlets and souvenir shops. Dinner and overnight in Chiang Rai.

  3. Day 3 · White Temple – Blue Temple – Chiang Mai

After breakfast, visit the White Temple, Wat Rong Khun, designed by artist Chalermchai Kositpipat in an all-white blend of classic Thai and surreal styles, then the Blue Temple, Wat Rong Suea Ten, in deep blue and gold. After lunch, return to Chiang Mai via the CHOM garden cafe with its waterfalls and mist (drinks at your own expense), plus honey and latex showrooms. Dinner at a local restaurant.

  4. Day 4 · Wat Chedi Luang – Wat Lok Molee – Ho Chi Minh City

Breakfast and check-out, then visit Wat Chedi Luang and its great ancient brick chedi in the old town, and Wat Lok Molee with its three-tiered wooden hall near Chang Puak Gate. Transfer to the airport, have lunch with a meal voucher in the terminal and fly back to Ho Chi Minh City.
