In Hangzhou you see West Lake from the shore and the Qingshan wetland with its matcha-green water, then back in Shanghai visit the Jade Buddha Temple and the City God Temple – Yu Garden area. The final two days cover the Bund, Lujiazui, The Louis, Wukang Road, Xintiandi and Nanjing Road, and day five can be swapped for an optional Disneyland visit. Hotels are 4-star with five breakfasts and nine main meals. A relaxed East China tour for families and friends from northern Vietnam who would rather skip the shops.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 · Hanoi – Shanghai
Around 9:15 p.m. the coach and guide collect you in central Hanoi for Noi Bai and the after-midnight flight to Shanghai. Overnight on board.
Day 2 · Shanghai – Wuzhen
Land at Pudong around 5:30 a.m. and drive to Wuzhen, an ancient water town south of the Yangtze. After lunch explore Wuzhen East with its old stone bridges, flagstone lanes and carved timber houses. Dinner at a local restaurant, then check in and wander the old town at night.
Day 3 · Wuzhen – Hangzhou
After breakfast drive to Hangzhou to see West Lake from the shore, linked to the Butterfly Lovers legend and the poet Li Bai. In the afternoon visit the Qingshan wetland, a water forest carpeted with green duckweed that has become a favourite with visitors (kayaking at your own cost). In the evening you may add the Songcheng show at your own cost before the night in Hangzhou.
Day 4 · Hangzhou – Shanghai
Return to Shanghai for lunch, then visit the Jade Buddha Temple with its jade Buddhas and Buddhist paintings and relics. Stroll the old City God Temple quarter beside Yu Garden and have dinner; a Huangpu cruise is optional afterwards. Overnight in Shanghai.
Day 5 · Shanghai – or Disneyland
In the morning go to the Bund for views across to Pudong, Nanpu Bridge and the Oriental Pearl, then the international architecture area. Lunch is on your own; in the afternoon explore Lujiazui and photograph The Louis. Anyone keen can pre-register for a Disneyland day instead (minimum 10 guests, price confirmed when holding your booking); dinner with the group.
Day 6 · Shanghai – Hanoi
Check out and stroll Wukang Road and Xintiandi, have lunch and spend the afternoon shopping on the Nanjing Road pedestrian street. After dinner fly back to Hanoi, landing at Noi Bai after midnight with a coach back to the city centre.
