Sunrise Kempinski sits on Yanqi Lake in Huairou district, north of Beijing, about ten kilometres as the crow flies from the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. The hotel faces the water, and many rooms and suites have large windows over the lake and distant hills, at their best at sunset. Rooms are spacious and modern in grey and wood, bathrooms have a tub with a view, and there is an indoor play area for young children with a carousel and slides. Beyond the play area there is a pool, a spa, a gym, family rooms, room service, a 24-hour front desk and airport transfers; check-in is after 15:00. Suits families with young children who want a lakeside break or two combined with a trip to Mutianyu.
