Waldorf Astoria Beijing is a bronze-clad building on Jinyu Hutong, about three hundred metres from Wangfujing Street. Next to the main tower is a courtyard-house wing with red lacquered doors opening onto an inner yard, like a slice of old hutong life in the city. Rooms in the tower have jade-green walls, gold-leaf art behind the bed, terracotta sofas and large windows, and a few come with a balcony. Guests can use the pool, spa, gym, restaurant and 24-hour front desk; check-in is after 15:00 and check-out by 12:00. A good pick for travellers who like refined design and quiet, with Wangfujing shopping and food still within walking distance.
