Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok stands on the east bank of the Chao Phraya at the end of little Oriental Avenue in Charoen Krung, and is one of the oldest and most celebrated hotels in Asia. Most rooms look straight onto the river, dressed in wood, Thai silk and gilded boat carvings above the bed. The hotel runs its own boats across the river and to Saphan Taksin pier, where you can take the Skytrain into the centre or a river boat up to the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. There is a pool, a spa, a fitness room, children’s facilities, family rooms and airport transfers; check-in from 15:00, check-out by 12:00.
