Fairmont Peace Hotel is the green-roofed landmark where Nanjing Road East meets the Bund, one of the symbols of 1930s Shanghai. The Nanjing Road pedestrian street starts at the door, and the Huangpu promenade with its Lujiazui views is a few steps away. Much of the original Art Deco detail survives inside, and the jazz bar with its wooden floor and grand piano is a favourite evening stop. Some suites are themed after different countries; there is a pool, a spa, a jacuzzi, a gym and airport transfers; check-in 15:00, check-out 12:00. For travellers who want to stay inside a piece of the city’s history, right between its two liveliest walks.
