Badaling, in Yanqing district, was the first section of the Great Wall opened to visitors and is the best known among international travellers. The wall here is wide with stone-paved walkways, north and south branches climbing the hills, and a cable car for anyone who would rather not tackle the slopes. Tickets are confirmed instantly and suit visitors travelling on their own by train or private car from Beijing. Ticket types (entry only, or with cable car or shuttle) and daily prices appear once you choose a date; the from-price is the lowest option. Badaling gets very busy at weekends and on Chinese public holidays, so a weekday early start is best for photos.
