A spring small-group tour from Ho Chi Minh City, five days and five nights including one night on the plane, flying Vietnam Airlines into Kansai and home from Narita, with group return flights and a Japanese visa included. The itinerary states it is a tour with no compulsory shopping stops. You visit Tōdai-ji Temple and the deer of Nara Park, photograph Osaka Castle, watch a Maiko dance and try on a kimono; in Kyoto you walk the Philosopher’s Path and visit Fushimi Inari Shrine. There is a tea ceremony, a Shinkansen ride, Fuji’s 5th Station if weather allows and an onsen in Yamanashi, then Ueno Park and Asakusa Temple in Tokyo. Cherry trees usually bloom in late March to early April depending on the year; early-March dates may come before the blossom. Two nights are in 4-star hotels in Osaka and Narita.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 · Ho Chi Minh City – Kansai – Nara – Osaka
The night before departure the tour leader meets you at Tan Son Nhat for the after-midnight flight to Kansai, with breakfast on board. On arrival head to Nara for Tōdai-ji Temple and its great bronze Buddha and the park of over a thousand deer, then a Kobe beef lunch. In the afternoon photograph Osaka Castle from outside, watch a Maiko dance and try on a kimono, then free time on Shinsaibashi shopping street. Night in a 4-star hotel in Osaka.
Day 2 · Osaka – Kyoto – Nagoya
Check out and travel to Kyoto to walk the Philosopher’s Path, about 2 km along a canal lined with cherry trees in spring (subject to bloom). After lunch walk beneath the thousands of red torii at Fushimi Inari Shrine, then free time at the Mitsui Jazz Dream Nagashima outlet mall. Overnight in Nagoya or Toyohashi.
Day 3 · Shinkansen – tea ceremony – Mount Fuji – Yamanashi
After breakfast ride a section of the Shinkansen (the exact leg is arranged on the day) and take part in a tea ceremony at Gyokuro no Sato. In the afternoon go up to Fuji’s 5th Station if weather allows and visit Oshino Hakkai. Snow crab dinner, onsen and overnight in Yamanashi.
Day 4 · Yamanashi – Tokyo – Narita
Drive to Tokyo for Ueno Park, a famous cherry-blossom spot around Shinobazu Pond. In the afternoon visit Asakusa Temple with its giant paper lantern gate, Nakamise street, photograph the Skytree from outside and stop in Akihabara if time allows. Night in a 4-star hotel in Narita.
