Overview

Seoul is the capital, with Joseon-era palaces, the old lanes of Bukchon and Insadong and the shopping districts of Myeongdong, Gangnam and Hongdae; beyond the city lie Nami Island, Everland and the DMZ. Busan sits on the south coast with Haeundae Beach, Gamcheon village and the seaside Yonggungsa temple, and the two cities are linked by the KTX high-speed train.

Late March to April for cherry blossom; October to mid-November for autumn colours. December to February is below freezing, with snow.

Direct flights

Direct flights from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to Seoul (Incheon) or Busan take about 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours 30 minutes. Korea is 2 hours ahead of Vietnam.

How long

5–6 days: 3–4 nights in Seoul plus 2 nights in Busan; Seoul to Busan is about 2 hours 30 minutes on the KTX.

When is the best time to visit South Korea?

Late March to mid-April is cherry blossom season, and October to mid-November brings golden and red leaves, especially lovely on Nami Island and around the palaces. December to February is below freezing with snow, good for skiing; summer is hot and humid, with a long rainy spell from late June into July.

Do I need a visa for South Korea?

It depends on your passport. Many nationalities can enter visa-free but may need a K-ETA travel authorisation, while Vietnamese passport holders need a visa (included in our group tours). Check the latest rules with the official Korean government sites or your airline before you travel.

How soon is my hotel booking confirmed?
