Overview

The United States is so big that each coast is a trip of its own. The East Coast has New York with Times Square, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty, plus the capital, Washington; the West Coast has Los Angeles and Hollywood, Las Vegas in the desert, the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon, and San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge. First-timers from Vietnam often choose seven or eight days on the West Coast, or both coasts in eleven days.

Best time

April–June and September–October are pleasant on both coasts. December–February is cold with snow in New York; July–August is very hot in Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

Flights

Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to the West Coast usually connect via Taipei, about 16 hours in total; all tours on this page include international flights. The US is 11–15 hours behind Vietnam.

7–9 days for the West Coast (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco); 10–12 days if you add New York and Washington.

Visa

Visa rules depend on your passport; Vietnamese passport holders need a US visa with an in-person consular interview. Our group tours help with the application, with the visa fee extra. Passports must be valid for more than 6 months.

FAQ

Do I need a visa for the United States?

It depends on your passport. Vietnamese passport holders need a US visa, which involves an in-person interview at a US consulate; the visa fee is paid separately and is not included in our tour prices. On our group tours we help with the application and interview booking when you book. Check the current rules for your passport before you travel.

East Coast or West Coast for a first trip?

The West Coast suits a seven- or eight-day trip: Los Angeles, Hollywood, Universal Studios, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and San Diego, with a mild climate. To see New York, the Statue of Liberty and Washington as well, choose an East-and-West tour of about eleven days with one domestic flight.

Where should I stay in New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas?

In New York, first-timers do well around Times Square or Central Park, with easy walking and subway links. In Los Angeles, families going to Universal Studios should stay in Hollywood or Universal City, while Century City is closer to Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. In Las Vegas, stay right on the Strip to walk between the resorts, the Bellagio fountains and the shows.
